So... you've decided you want to submit, eh?
Well, then you've come to the right place!
We've got some rules here. Please follow to the letter!
Disclaimer:
- In case anyone wants to be technical on us, the staff of Cafe Manga do not own any of the work that is featured on this site. We would be considered as possessing "first publishing rights." In other words we don't own publishing rights to the work on this site for the next 300 years. ^_^;;; Any work that is to be removed will be removed by the request of the work's owners or any other concerned party.
Warnings:
- The staff will be accepting submissions year-round. However also understand that at various times of the year (due to personal schedules of editors OR the volume of material received during review period for the next issue), the staff may not be able to look at your work immediately.
- If you want to improve your work and want the opinion of other people, then submit. If you have a tendency to take criticisms too personally, we HIGHLY suggest that you don't submit to us.
- We offer submissions the best advice we can give. You are certainly free to follow or ignore advice. In fact, if the advice of your editor has MAJOR conflicts with your creative vision, then no one will be offended if you don't accept advice. However, no one likes to be accused of controlling someone else's work. Many of the editors are also manga-ka and writers, we know how you feel. If there is any problem regarding your editor, then please send you complaints to submissions@cafemanga.com WITH subject line
labeled "Complaints and Abuse."
- FOLLOW THE SUBMISSION RULES!! You're a busy person. We're busy people. Please make your life and our lives easier by doing everything we ask. No IF's, AND's, or BUT's.
Content:
- We don't like to tell people what stuff they can have in their work. We're writers and artists too you know? However, we're more than aware that minors will probably be checking out this site, and some adults just don't like looking at "naughty" stuff. So please understand we have to keep those people in mind too. No Hentai or EXCESS Gore will be allowed.
- Sexual Content and Nudity
- We do actually see an artistic value in the depiction of nudity. We will allow nudity that doesn't graphically show genatalia or genatalia drawn in full detail. In Sailor Moon when the girls transform into Sailor Senshi, they are clearly nude, but their breasts, etc. aren't detailed. Just a basic outline feature. Another example is in BASTARD! with the numerous times Dark Schneider is in the buff. You don't see all that much. Just enough to know he's naked.
- Sex scenes are a major no-no. Hence our no Hentai rule. However, you are allowed to have scenes that imply that a couple is going to have sex. You are also allowed to have "morning after" scenes. If there is any question of how acceptable these scenes are in your work, please express this concern to your editor, and they will advise you what adjustments you should make.
- Violence
- Lots of stories feature fight scenes, etc. which we don't mind. How graphic the violence can be is something else all together. We naturally assume you have common sense. Think of the general audience. Don't get carried away. If the nature of your story is very violent, then we'll be putting disclaimers, etc. We still would like you to think really hard about how necessarily violent your story has to be. You editor will advise you, and you are more than welcome to express them.
Format
We prefer .jpg files, but we'll accept .bmp files too. Manga and doujinshi are BLACK-and-WHITE. Fanart can be colored. The size of manga/doujinshi panels should be large enough to be read without us having to change the size to see better. You should do this for us already.
If you are drawing on paper and scanning in the artwork, please be aware paper most manga-ka use is 10 x 14-15 inches. When published in print, the images are shruken to 82% of the size.
Length
Stories that are one-shots or up to 5 chapters long, should be no longer than 40-45 pages per chapter. Stories that are 6 chapter and up, should be no longer than 25-30 pages.
Trust us... it really takes time to read and critique so much story.
Doujinshi
We use the same standards as manga.
Fanart
We use the same standards as manga.
Fanfiction
We currently do not plan to host general fanfiction submissions. Fanfiction is very important in anime/manga fandom. However we feel that fanfiction is already prevalent. (e.g. FanFiction.net, MediaMiner.org, etc.)
We will, however, consider hosting and archiving fanfiction written by manga-ka we are publishing. (Believe it or not, some of the manga-ka or the writer of a manga-ka creative team, also write fanfiction.) Many of the staff members also write fanfiction, so we will publish works written by our own staff members.
If you have a fanfic that you wish to recommend, then we will link to the story if it's online already. If the author is currently looking for a host, we will consider posting this person IF we really like the story. The story must be e-mailed to submissions@cafemanga.com as a .txt file or .doc file. UNSOLICITED FANFICTION will NOT be accepted.
Submission e-mail
- All submissions must be sent to submissions@cafemanga.com
- The subject line must label what sort of submission it is. Use brackets: [manga], [doujinshi], [fanart], and [fanfiction]
- When sending us submissions, please include the following:

- Manga/Doujinshi will be archived by manga-ka names alphabetically.
- E-mail address

If you are a new submitter (never received anything from you before), please give us at least ONE WEEK AFTER sending us your work so an editor can be selected for you.
